Dental Care Tips

Posted Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Your dental hygiene starts with your every day routines. Caring for your mouth and teeth every day can minimize your need for invasive or emergency dental procedures. Making time in your every day schedule for proper dental care can save you time and money in the long run. Healthy mouth and teeth don’t need to spend as long in the dentist’s chair and don’t need additional cleaning or procedures.

Take time at least every morning and evening to thoroughly brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste containing fluoride. Using an electric or sonic toothbrush can help you brush effectively, and also keep you brushing long enough, as many are set with a timer.

Softly brushing your tongue can also help you remove plaque-causing sugars. Brushing after meals is also useful, but if you don’t have time or the space to do so, swish some water around your mouth to loosen food particles and sugars. Keeping your gums healthy is a critical part of keeping your mouth healthy.

Tartar can build and quickly cause gingivitis. Brush at a slight angle, with the brushes toward the gums to brush away sugar and plaque. Floss your teeth once a day as well to reach things your brush can’t.

Daily dental care may seem to take time and energy, but every day removal of buildup can lead to a healthier mouth, brighter smile, and less time with the dentist!
